From Southam. Played various types of venue including folk clubs. Played Cov Arts Umbrella at HUMPOESIC HAPPENING July 12th 1972.

Line up: Terry Anders (female vocals), Dick Morden (lead guitar), Gil Bowden (rhythm guitar), Keir Godwin (bass), Dick Cosman (drums).

'Springfields-ish' beat group (according to Midland Beat) who came 4th in 'Sound Of '64' contest at the Cavern club in Liverpool in July 1964, with song Handful Of Hearts .

Cosman previously played with Tommy Steele .

Won 1964 'Big Beat Contest'. Manager was Don Peters.

Meriden based outfit, played Triumph Motorcycles Christmas party.


The CHADS

Line up: Margaret Reiss (organ), Johnny Williams (sax) and others

Reiss left April 1965 and was replaced by Gordon Hughes, they eventually broke up in July 1965.    The bassist joined The Establishment.

Jeff Lynne also played in the band from early 1965 until the split when he and Williams joined the Mad Classix.


The CHALLENGERS

Beat group

Line up: Woody Allen (vocals), Bob Saunders (guitar), John Zetterstron (guitar), Neil Hawkins (bass), Ted Bean (drums).

Leamington band formed during the Skiffle boom, Allen's real name Alan Wood. Zetterstron moved on to The 3 Johns.

Formed in December 1963 and managed by Gordon Williams. Signed with Joe Meek as their recording manager. Became The Money Spiders in 1965.

Gigs in 1971 included Cov Arts Umbrella Friday September 25th, The Village (Colin Campbell) on Fri 1st January, The Walsgrave Tues 12th Jan 1971 and Warwick university arts Fest. Sunday 7th March.

 


CHRIS JONES AGGRESSION

Leader Chris Jones ( lead guitar), Terry ? (bass), Baz? (drums). 

Rehearsed and performed at Cov Arts Umbrella. Joe Reynolds (Sax and Flute) apparently played with them. Chris Jones later with Khayyam

Lucas AKA Martin. previously in Tony Martin And The Echo Four went on to form The Storytellers.

CURE AND THE PEEPS
circa 1965-68

Good tough R&B/Beat group consisted of Martin Cure (vocals), Roy Albrighton (guitar), Graham Amos (bass), Paul Wilkinson (drums).

Formed ' 65 at local youth club run by father of orig. guitarist (Steve Jones). Spotted by Cyril Stapleton and signed to Philips label. Appeared on Thank Your Lucky Stars and Border TV. Toured Europe, adding a keyboard player and eventually changing name to 'Rainbows'.

Roy Albrighton went on to form Nektar, who were European based.
